It was troublesome at high speeds since forage harvesters from the mid-1960s did not provide continuous operation while switching trucks. By updating the KS-2.6 combine, VISKHOM and the Gomselmash factory created a new KSS-2.6 combine in 1968. While the working width was constant, the header and chopping apparatus's strength and power increased, allowing for an increase in operating speed from 5 km/h to 12 km/h and productivity from 40–50 t/h to 80–90 t/h.
