Produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Massey Ferguson 850 and 860 combines were dependable and strong devices intended for medium- to large-scale agricultural operations. Both had diesel engines and standard straw walker threshing systems; the bigger 860 had up to 175 horsepower for greater harvesting capacity, while the 850 had around 130 horsepower. These combines were common workhorses in their day because of their simplicity, longevity, and support for a variety of header sizes. They were also simple to maintain. Despite lacking contemporary technology, antique farm equipment fans continue to revere them for their sturdy performance and mechanical construction.
