Water Buffalo – A New Animal Species in FS25
As it’s known, Farming Simulator 25 will introduce a new type of animal for breeding – water buffaloes. This addition makes sense, as the new installment focuses on East Asian culture. Along with new crops specific to these regions, the developers also decided to add animals native to these areas. All of this will be featured on the new Asian map, which will be exclusive to FS25. Unique animals and crops from the region will be a crucial part of this map. Buffaloes, as a symbol of Asian lands, will be available for breeding, allowing players to experience farming on Asian soil in a whole new way.
In this article, we’ll dive into what to expect from the new animal species, their features and capabilities, as well as what products can be obtained from them. Let's go!
What to Feed Buffaloes and How to Care for Them
Buffaloes are known for being low-maintenance when it comes to food and living conditions, making them convenient to raise. Their main food source is grass, which they can graze on directly from pastures. This is highly convenient since it eliminates the need to spend money on various types of feed. All you need is one or several pastures, plant them with grass, and let the buffaloes roam.
Moreover, not only buffaloes can graze on these pastures but also other animals, like cows, sheep, and goats (another new species, but we’ll discuss them in a different article). This is a new unique mechanic in Farming Simulator 25, which we will also explain in more detail later.
One of the important care mechanics will be monitoring the animals' health and condition. Caring for water buffaloes will be similar to caring for other animals in the game: it's important to keep the pastures clean and regularly check the animals' health, as this will affect their productivity. This mechanic will make the gameplay even more interesting and realistic.
Buffalo Farming
In FS25, you’ll be able to not only buy adult buffaloes but also raise calves. They will appear on your farm after purchasing females. Just like with cows or other animals, you can raise them from scratch. Yes, you heard that right – there’s a new mechanic: buffaloes can breed and produce offspring. It will take 18 months for them to reach adulthood – a long process, but one that will yield significant profit in the future. While it requires more attention and care, it’s more profitable than purchasing adult buffaloes.
Additionally, you’ll be able to buy young buffaloes right away and raise them. But experienced farmers won’t be surprised by this feature – it was already available in FS22.
You can either sell the calves on the market or keep them for further breeding. Selling them will bring in a small profit, but it will be much more beneficial to raise them and produce milk for a new product in the game – mozzarella. More on that below.
Unique Features of Water Buffalo for Breeding:
-
Low Feed Requirements. Their main feed is grass, which grows almost everywhere. This means there’s no need to spend money on feed, though you can still purchase additional feed if desired.
-
Offspring. In FS25, buffalo can reproduce, allowing you to increase the herd size and earn more profit.
-
Long Growth Cycle. It takes 18 months for the calves to reach adulthood. This may seem lengthy, but it makes the breeding process more engaging.
-
Milk Production for Mozzarella. A unique opportunity to use buffalo milk for producing a high-profit product—mozzarella cheese.
-
Grass Mowing. Buffalo can act as "living lawnmowers," grazing on grass in fields and pastures, reducing the need for mowing machinery.
-
Shared Pasture with Other Animals. Buffalo can graze alongside cows, sheep, and goats, increasing the efficiency of pasture use.
How to Profit from Buffaloes in Farming Simulator 25
Due to their modest diet and low maintenance needs, buffaloes may become one of the most efficient ways to make money in the game. The main sources of income will be milk and selling adult animals, though there are other products you can obtain thanks to the new mechanics. However, those aren’t as exciting and are already familiar to many Farming Simulator players. We’re most interested in these two ways to profit. Let’s take a closer look at each.
Mozzarella
This is one of the most exciting new features in the game. Producing mozzarella from buffalo milk is not only an enjoyable process but also a highly profitable business. By collecting milk from adult buffaloes, you’ll be able to produce high-value cheese that is prized and sells for a premium on the market. If you played FS22, you know that milk from cows could be used for product production. A similar mechanic will be used here. It’s safe to say that producing cheese from buffalo milk will be a serious competitor to other methods of making money from dairy products. While producing mozzarella will require extra effort, the result will justify the resources invested. According to the developers, this product will be one of the most expensive on the market, offering a stable source of income.
Let's consider the pros and cons of this method of making a profit from buffaloes in FS25.
Pros:
- High product value on the market.
- Stable income with regular milk supply.
- Interesting and engaging cheese production process.
- The product becomes one of the most expensive in the game.
Cons:
- Requires additional effort and investment for production.
- Dependent on the health and productivity of the buffaloes.
- Requires proper care of the animals and pastures.
Selling Adult Animals
This method of earning is quite simple, but it won’t yield as much money. However, it does have one advantage – minimal effort. You won’t need to spend a lot of time and energy on further care for the animals, unlike with earning income from mozzarella.
When the buffaloes reach adulthood (18 months), they can be sold on the market. Bred animals will become valuable goods, and their sale will bring profit. Since meat production is absent in FS25, buffaloes will be sold to other farms rather than for processing.
This method also has its own advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
- Minimal effort required to make a profit.
- Income without the need for product processing.
- Bred animals can be easily sold on the market.
Cons:
- Lower income compared to product processing.
- Selling only adult animals is a long process (18 months to maturity).
- No option for processing to increase profits.
Using Buffaloes for Grass Mowing
Let’s talk about another interesting mechanic involving buffaloes and other domestic animals. It’s unique and available only in Farming Simulator 25. This mechanic allows buffaloes, cows, goats, and other herbivorous animals to mow grass on fields and pastures. This not only eliminates the need to purchase feed mixtures but also allows you to use animals as "living mowers." This way, you can manage fields without relying on grass-cutting machinery. It will provide an interesting alternative to traditional resource management methods on the farm.
The introduction of water buffaloes in FS25 will undoubtedly make the simulator even more engaging. Thanks to the addition of new mechanics, the game will become more realistic, making the gameplay even more immersive. And it seems these are not the only innovations we can expect in the game.
