The enormous size, square shape, and equal-sized wheels on both axles of the Deutz D16006 make it an intimidating and distinctive tractor. It was constructed on an articulated frame, which gave it a unique pivoting action that enabled impressively tight turns for a huge machine, in contrast to many tractors of its day. While its substantial construction and articulating joint give it the appearance of an earth-moving machine rather than a traditional farm tractor, its striking green body and tall hood conceal a powerful V8 diesel engine. Although many versions were operated without a cab, leaving drivers exposed to the elements, the operator's position is high and central, providing a commanding view of the field. The D16006 shows its real nature in the field; it is heavy and sluggish but immensely powerful, designed to pull big plows and do hard jobs where brute force was more important than skill. It is now a unique and intriguing example of daring tractor design in addition to being a workhorse of its day.
