Produced between 1965 and 1967, the International Harvester (IH) 1206 Farmall was a revolutionary row-crop tractor that was noteworthy for being the first tractor to surpass 100 horsepower and the first to be turbocharged. With its launch, International Harvester was able to overcome a challenging time and establish a solid reputation for producing strong, cutting-edge agricultural equipment. Wheatland and International Standard versions were also offered for the 1206.
Background and importance:
Farmall with the first turbocharger: The IH 1206 Farmall's power output was increased with a factory-installed turbocharger, which was a major technical breakthrough at the time.
The first horsepower above 100: It gave farmers additional power for labor-intensive agricultural activities like plowing since it was the first row-crop tractor on the market to have more than 100 horsepower.
Unique design: To demonstrate its sophisticated engineering, the 1206 had a "Turbo" decal on the bonnet and a distinctive red and white paint job.
Taking on the tire problem: Originally slated for delivery in 1964, prototypes of the tractor were so powerful that they tore the tires from the rims. After new, more resilient tires were created, the introduction was postponed until 1965.
Details:
Engine: 6-cylinder diesel engine with liquid cooling and turbocharger (IH DT361).
361 cubic inches (5.9L) of displacement.

Drawbar horsepower ranges from 95.00 to 99.16.
gearbox: Unsynchronized 8-speed gearbox with a 16-speed partial powershift torque amplifier (TA) available as an option.
Approximately 9,400 to 10,115 pounds in weight.
It can hold 42 gallons of fuel.
Restoration and collectibility:
Highly esteemed: The IH 1206 Farmall is a well-liked and valuable antique tractor because of its strong performance and creative design.
Resources for restoration: Due to the tractor's enduring appeal, service and parts manuals, as well as engine overhaul kits, are still available from vendors such as Jensales and Yesterday's Tractors.
Toys that can be collected: Collectors also like die-cast versions and replicas of the 1206, which are made by firms such as ERTL.
Models used:
Equipment shops and auction websites such as Machinery Pete and TractorHouse continue to sell used IH 1206 tractors. Listings on these websites, as of October 2025, display different costs and conditions according on variables including hours, original parts, and restoration status.
